'The Business of Sustainability'

The College of Business launched the Betty F. Elliott Initiative for Academic Excellence in early 2010. This initiative is a campus-wide exploration of critical business issues that will connect business leaders, alumni, faculty and students throughout the next decade and beyond. The theme for the year 2010-11 is "The Business of Sustainability."

The initiative's first public panel discussion, titled "Sustainability in Manufacturing," was held on campus Oct. 6, in partnership with Crain's Detroit Business. The following panelists offered their perspectives on sustainability and how industries are adapting today's manufacturing processes:

Paul Murray, Director of Environmental Safety and Sustainability, Herman Miller, Inc.
Ann Marie Sastry, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder, Sakti3 and Director, Energy Systems Engineering Program University of Michigan
