Greater financial aid resources and campus-wide technology upgrades to support student success highlight the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s fiscal year 2019 budget.

The Board of Regents approved the plan Thursday. 

The $155 million operating budget includes a 15.35 percent increase in overall existing financial aid programs. The university’s total financial aid investment is more than $18 million for the fiscal year, more than three times what it was a decade ago.   

“������-Dearborn remains committed to aligning our budget with the university’s top priorities: maintaining academic quality, preserving student accessibility through financial aid and ensuring a fair and productive learning and working environment for our faculty, staff and students,” ������-Dearborn Chancellor Daniel Little said. “I am confident that the budget we presented to the regents today achieves each of these priorities.”

The approved budget includes support for the new Engineering Lab Building, which broke ground in April, and campus-wide technology enhancements, including increased internet speeds, greater outdoor Wi-Fi coverage and upgraded classroom audio-visual technology. 

Additional technology and software upgrades also will allow for more streamlined student communications, academic advising and course scheduling. 

The budget includes just more than $26 million in state funding, an increase of $649,900, or 2.6 percent. ������-Dearborn received the third highest percentage increase among all 15 state public universities.  

Tuition and fees for 2018-19 for a typical in-state, full-time undergraduate student will increase by $229 per semester to $6,465, based on 15 credit hours. The 3.7 percent increase falls below the state legislature’s tuition restraints. The cost of tuition and fees for individual students varies by program.
