With a few weeks until the transition here are some important dates for you to mark on your calendar.
- February 22 – ITS has been working behind the scenes on preparations for months and will begin copying email data from Zimbra to Google for about 14,000 account. In order to make this process more successful please read and follow the Pre-Migration Check List today!
- March 15 - Zimbra will be taken offline for the final copy and cutover to Google.
- March 18 – Google will be live! Google Guides will be available across campus to help answer questions, show people how to set up their phones/mobile devices, and help get them started with the basic mail and calendar. Meet the Google Guides in the March 7 Reporter. Look forward to a shorter email address ([email protected]) and more storage.
Some things can’t be automatically moved to Google, including calendars and contacts. Check out the Migration Help Guides for instructions on these items. Some things will also need to be recreated in Google including email signatures, tasks, email rules/filters.
If this all seems like too much, don’t worry you have help! Numerous training sessions are being offered to help with the process. Overview sessions will be help March 5, 7, 13 and 15 to provide basic information and tips. Hands-on sessions will be provided after Go Live, which will outline features and share tips and tricks.
And don’t forget about the Google Guides. About 50 ÂÜÀòÉç-Dearborn students, faculty and staff will serve as Google Guides March 18-22. Wearing identifiable t-shirts, some of them will be strategically placed in public spaces across campus for drop-in questions and assistance. Others will visit offices to help faculty and staff get set up and started using Google. Meet the Google Guides in the March 7 Reporter.
