We are writing to share some exciting updates from Student Affairs.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Shareia Carter to Associate Dean of Students. In her new role, Shareia will serve as my (AF) deputy with a focus on student belonging and well-being. In this role, she will supervise the Office of Student Life and Veterans Affairs, and will be taking on important Division of Student Affairs work, including, constituting and leading a new advisory committee comprising faculty, staff and students that is focused on student belonging and well-being. This new position will dovetail with and complement her role as Co-Director of the Office of Holistic Excellence.

We will also be transitioning the LGBTQIA+ and Multicultural programming, along with program managers Rory Chumney and Jerrard Wheeler, back to their original home in the Office of Student Life (OSL). These positions were previously part of OSL before their move in 2019. This organizational shift aims to create a more robust, strategic, and streamlined approach to programming, while maintaining the integrity of our current initiatives. We believe this transition will amplify our commitment to student success, belonging, and well-being, through the additional resources and strength provided by the established OSL structure. The streamlined resources will provide savings that will be redeployed to increase the base budget ensuring the continuity of Dearborn Support, housing both the Student Food Pantry and other basic needs resources for students, another example of Student Affairs’ commitment to maintaining an inclusive campus.

The Division of Student Affairs remains steadfastly committed to supporting the success and wellbeing of all students through our programs and services.
