Engineering Learning Center
Our Mission
The mission of the Engineering Learning Center (ELC) is to support the academic success of the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) students in an open, inclusive, and student-focused environment that fosters students' ownership of their learning journey, in close partnership with faculty, staff, students, alumni as well as university and industry partners.
Our Approach
The ELC supports its mission through a holistic approach to learning and success that includes a variety of services and programs such as free tutoring, boot-camps, exam preparation, success coaching, and guided study sessions. ELC services are tailored to engineering and computer science students, programs, and courses and cover major courses across the four CECS departments. The ELC services and programs are provided in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and industry partners. The center complements and coordinates with existing ÂÜÀòÉç-Dearborn academic success resources such as the Office of Academic Success, Experience+, Talent Gateway, peer learning centers (math, science, and writing), and the Mardigian Library.
We welcome your ideas and would like to support you in the ELC! If you would like to work directly with an ELC tutor or if there’s something you think would better assist with your academic success in CECS, please send an email to [email protected]

Exam Review Sessions and Bootcamps

ELC Tutors conduct Exam Review Sessions for midterms, upcoming exams and finals. These are small group sessions conducted in the ELC by Tutors that have completed the course, are familiar with the material and professors and are supportive of your success in the course. Exam Review Sessions will be posted in the ELC and shared with professors and students prior to the exams. If you would like a review session for your class, please speak to a tutor directly or email [email protected].
The goal CIS Bootcamp is to review fundamental concepts to prepare students to succeed in CIS 200 and beyond. Students that have completed CIS 150 may need a refresher or review to better prepare them as they move forward. The bootcamps are led by CIS upperclassmen and include ELC Tutors and Supplemental Instructors (SI) Leaders. Bootcamps are conducted during the first week of the semester during the CIS 200 lab period as most labs are not regularly scheduled during that week.
